#138: Top Mistakes You’re Making with Teacher Accreditation

You've been studying the standards and gathering the stuff... Why does it feel so hard to create great evidence?

Sometimes, even with the best will in the world, even though you have been trying really hard to really study those standards and get the right evidence.

Sometimes it just feels like it just is not coming together.

Did you know that there are three, really common mistakes that educators make when putting their evidence together for teacher accreditation?

These mistakes create so much stress and waste countless hours of your time…

In this episode of The Reflective Teacher Podcast, I’m sharing three of the most common mistakes that educators make as they put together their evidence of practice for teacher accreditation.

Are you making one of these common evidence gathering mistakes? STOP IT!

These three mistakes are crazy obvious and yet, I see them come up over and over again.

I want you to avoid these mistakes.

  1. The first mistake that people make is talking about the wrong thing.  Because you see, if you choose to talk about yourself and what you did against the standards you will not pass because it’s really important that you understand how the career stages work. Who it is that you should be having an impact on? Are you clear about that? Are you writing about that?
  2.  You have the “hero” of your story but you’re not talking about the impact you’ve made on them.  In your evidence, you need to tell the story of the impact that something has had on someone.
  3. When you went into this portfolio business when you started to reflect on your practice, you didn’t actually plan to measure impact. This leaves you in scrambling to find artefacts. and stuck wondering whether you’ve got enough evidence of impact.

Does this resonate with you? Tune in to hear more about this mistakes and how to avoid them as you build your evidence for teacher accreditation
