Targets for Next Time:

In relation to this topic and next year’s cohort: I need to give myself a bit more time.  I can’t remove the content but I may be able to gain a workshop prior to their assignment deadline.  This might be achieved by either removing or moving the workshop on Digital Technologies as a curriculum area. Either way, more time would give us the opportunity to delve even more deeply into the learning we’re creating together and make sure that it’s properly consolidated before attempting an assignment

Being Tough on Myself:  Having written this post, I can see now how much I actually did attempt to use with One Note. At the time it felt like I just wasn’t using it well enough but, I can see now that there are some sound pedagogical choices here and that, had I tried to do too much more, I would have lost something from this.  There simply wasn’t time.  I need more time to get some of these ideas to work more deeply rather than more time to do more THINGS

I’m going to be brave and share this post on the forum in our online learning environment.  I would love to hear honest feedback from the students who were subject to this little experiment.  I’m about to receive the assignment we were all preparing for and I am genuinely excited to read them. I will write another post on whether I can see any significant impact on the final result once my marking is done 🙂 I would be keen to hear how the students felt these activities work.  To see whether my spidey senses were correct.  I know that, for some, the experience was sometimes a little overwhelming and that the devices we were using didn’t’ always help us to get the best out of the occasion.  I now need to decide whether to keep using ONeNote for the next section of our studies together.  At this point, I’m thinking that I should. We’ll see.

  1. I definitely agree that tutors would benefit from a some transparency in how they can best develop the strengths of students through, potentially strength-based evaluations, like Jonny: strong skills in research, however needs more encouragement and prompting to confidently join the group discussion. Interests: critical pedagogy, time travel, and DoctorWho. The heat map rubric first provided a clear set of standards/expectations, and was used to create a conversation (formative assessment) between teacher and student. This was used for tiering the subsequent lesson. Well done, Ms Selena Woodward.

    • Thanks Jacinta. Thank you for taking the time to read my reflection and for commenting! I hope it has been useful for you all too. I guess the proof will be in the pudding (or assignment 2 as it’s otherwise known!)
